Course Objective

Social sector practitioners work with problems of great complexity and magnitude. As they work in these challenging environments to create meaningful impact, they may experience frustration, disappointment, stress and burnout. The effects of the well-being of leaders in the social sector may trickle down to their teams. Research-based evidence demonstrates that social sector practitioners benefit personally and professionally from purposefully attending to their well-being.
This course will help participants take away perspectives, practices and skills, which nurture well- being in self, others, teams and organizations.

Course Outcomes

When the practices, perspectives and skills learnt in the program are applied in their lives, participants may experience one or more of the following outcomes:
  • Cope better with stress
  • Recover more quickly from setbacks
  • Cultivate healthier and more satisfying relationships - personal and professional
  • Create a safe and supportive work environment
  • Be more productive at work

Course Details

Working Towards Wellbeing is a two-part course. However, participants can attend one part of the program without the other or choose to do both parts together in the same year.
  • Part 1: Thriving Individuals (Self) and Thriving Relationships (Relationships)
  • Part 2: Thriving Team Spaces (Organisation)

PART 1 – Thriving individuals: How to be in harmony with self? How to be resilient?
The “interior” condition” of the individual influences deeply how they show up in their lives. It is possible to understand, recognise and regulate emotions so that the “interior condition” of the individual is conducive and allows them to be the best version of themselves in both good and challenging times. Thriving relationships: How to be in harmony with others? How to create nurturing and supportive relationships?
We all want to have mutually enriching and satisfying relationships. When we struggle with a relationship, we believe that the fault lies with the other. To strengthen and enrich our relationships, we must turn the spotlight on ourselves – our choices, words, and actions. By shifting our perceptions, choices and behaviours, we can influence how others show up, thereby transforming our relationship.
Questions we will explore:
  • What are some assumptions and beliefs that become barriers to nurturing relationships?
  • How do I extend empathy and acceptance to others?
  • How do I listen and communicate so that we can understand each other?

PART 2 – Thriving organizational spaces: How can we create collaborative, wellbeing-centred cultures in organisations?
The organisational container that people interact and work within can have a considerable impact on their work, productivity, relationships, and state of being. As a leader with influence, you can intentionally create a container that fosters inclusion, collaboration and enables well-being. However, given the day-to-day pressures and conflicting priorities, sometimes this can be a challenge. Some perspectives and practices can help us.

Testimonials

Rizwan Ahmed, Founder-Member, Gubbachi Learning Community
“When I was recommended by my colleagues to join the workshop on well-being, I was in two minds. Should I or not? I was really happy that I did join. The entire program was very well curated and designed. The various aspects like situational role play analysis, the group activities, the self and organizational evaluation helped me understand what makes well-being important for both self and organization. I would definitely recommend every person to attend this program for self and organizational well-being, so that we genuinely spread well-being around us.”

Supriya Dey, Co-Founder, Vision Empower
"For me, the course provided a safe introspective space through insightful techniques. Well-researched course material and exceptional facilitators are some things that stood out during the training. Some key takeaways for me were the techniques to improve wellness based on my own past experiences and looking within using the rubrics shared. Some things that stood out about the Viridus facilitators were their sensitivity to individual privacy and recommendations without prescriptions. I would recommend this program to leaders because their individual wellness is often ignored.”
