Course Objectives
The objective of this course is to provide the participants with the basic knowledge of what a worksheet is, its types, features and purpose, along with the know-how for making worksheets and using them in learning spaces.Course Outcomes
At the end of this course, we expect the participants to have a new grasp of what makes a good worksheet, and to be inspired to try making these on their own.Pre-requisites
This course is meant for educators who teach students in grades 3 to 5, want to improve their skills related to making worksheets, and are willing to put in some time and practice to achieve content and aesthetic quality. Participants should have the ability to understand basic English and make oneself understood.er the workshop.Expected Commitment
The course spans over four (4) days, with virtual sessions of three (3) hours per day. Besides this, there will be around one (1) hour to be spent on pre-work assigned beforehand.Course Details
During lockdown in 2020, Shikshamitra came out with a series of worksheet packets on request from parents and teachers. The work was done together by Shikshamitra’s three main facilitators. The process and outcome of group work was an amazing learning experience. This gave the organization the idea for the workshop.The course will be done in 1 phase as a series of virtual sessions of 3 hours each over 4 non-consecutive days (17th, 19th, 22nd and 26th Oct 2024) .
The workshop will focus on the following:
- What is a worksheet and how worksheets differ from other sheets;
- The different types of worksheets that can be created and why to create them at all;
- What curricula and subjects are benefitted by the use of worksheets, e.g., language learning, some math and theme-based curricula like EVS, etc.
About The Resource Organization
Shikshamitra began as an alternative school and education resource centre in 2005. It currently offers specific training modules in Foundational Literacy (in Bengali and English) and math, creative writing, developing worksheets, on running libraries as open learning spaces, and art education, along with its material resources for teachers to influence and improve the education of first-generation school goers. Designing and producing TLMs in-house for mathematics and languages have been a core area of the organization’s work.Course Facilitators

Sudeshna Sinha is a special educator. She has been involved in establishing experimental elementary schools - Aashirvad Vidyalaya at St. Joseph’s School and Shikshamitra in Kolkata. Her expertise is in developing curriculum, appropriate pedagogy, materials, books and assessment tools. Currently she heads Shikshamitra. Sudeshna is dedicated to teacher training at the elementary level. She excels at motivating, supporting and creating inspired, caring teachers. She has designed methods and materials for effective teaching, especially in languages. Sudeshna splits her time as a resource teacher for different NGOs, and for teacher centres in Kolkata, and Digantar, Rajasthan. She has close connections to Azim Premji University and Wipro Foundation and is a resource consultant/advisor to an alternative school in Bangladesh and Techno India Group of Schools at Ariadaha, West Bengal. |

Rajat Mallick is a professionally trained musician, music teacher and therapist, who incorporates other arts media into his classes. After completing a Performing Arts Therapy course from Rabindra Bharati University (Kolkata), he did a Post Graduate Diploma in Music Therapy from the Chennai School of Music Therapy, offered in collaboration with IMC Khrem, Austria. He works with his students to make different types of music instruments, often from thrown away items. Rajat has developed and installed several of his “Harmony Stations,” where children can explore and enjoy sound and rhythm without any inhibitions. “Easy to play and anyone can play” is the main concept of this unique invention, usually built outside. Rajat believes in inclusion and often incorporates environmental awareness in his sessions. He also conducts specially designed classes for the elderly who suffer from dementia, for cancer patients, and for physically challenged and/or marginalized children. |

Maura Hurley is an art educator, who has successfully run a community library out of her home for over 20 years. She incorporates story books, environment, sustainability, and experiential learning in all her sessions. Maura is one of the main coordinators of Shikshamitra’s library. She helps develop and conduct Shikshamitra’s workshops on “Libraries as open learning spaces.” She is currently the in-house art and design person at Shikshamitra as well. |

Biswajit Chitrakar Beginning his career as a youth leader in Cini Asha, Kolkata, Biswajit Chitrakar transformed into a devoted teacher in Shikshamitra, specializing in math for primary level and up to Class 6. Presently the Chief Coordinator of Shikshamitra, Biswajit conducts the math training at the organization for teachers in government and private schools, and at NGO-run centres. He is an integral part of all the trainings and materials created and offered by Shikshamitra. |
